Inconsistent Magpies
Newcastle have again shown signs of inconsistency, after a decent start against West Brom they fell behind from a dubious call. A missed offside helped the Baggies, but the Magpies' failure to defend lead to the chance on goal. Soon enough the Magpies would go down 3-1 their first loss to West Brom in 26 year.
This comes after Newcastle held Chelsea to a 1-1 scoreline, the week before at St. James' Park. While Chelsea were the better for most of the second half of the game, Newcasyle's defense after the hammering against Bolton the week before. Sol Campbell got his first Newcastle start while Fabricio Coloccini serves his ban.
Newcastle managed a 1-nil win over Arsenal but have failed to capitalize on that win and held on for a draw against Fulham. The Bolton loss has been Newcastle's worst display yet, their defense was all over the place. They were lucky not to have lost WIlliamson early and then Nolans handball lead to the first goal. But what stuck out most was Fabricio Coloccini's poor effort late that first lead to a goal and then his sending off. A rough penalty against Newcastle was the icing on the cake for an all round poor performance.
Rumors would suggest Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton is reportedly weighing up a move for French side FC Lorient’s star striker, Kevin Gameiro. The 23 year-old has scored 30 goals in 79 appearances for Lorient, and although best deployed as a centre forward, Gameiro is also very capable playing in the hole behind the front man, and can even deputise on the wing.
The rumors would suggest Newcastle would sell in form striker Andy Carroll to bring Gameiro to the side. Due to not having much in the transfer budget. Tottenham, Stoke and other clubs were interested over the summer. Steven Taylor is still expected to leave in the January window.
Newcastle will need to work on their consistency if they are to avoid the drop this season, some signings in January and some returns to the sidecould see late charge. The Magpies will regain Steve Harper in the new year, after he injured his shoulder. Tim Krul has stepped up to the plate this season, the Dutchman has made a lot of good saves, but has made some errors. One such error came against Arsenal in the Magpies' heavy defeat In their last cup tie.
Former Everton youngster Dan Gosling may not get to play for jis new side this season, but will the Magpies will be looking forward to him playing again soon. I still believe Newcastle will stay up, but the inconsistent performances in a real worry.
My hope is Newcastle keeps Carroll and can sign some talent and the contract talks start to secure him at the Magpies past this season.Losing Harper did hinder the Magpies, but Krul has stood up and been valuable for Newcastle. Carroll who scored 17 goals in the Championship already has 9. He's really stepped up as well the season in the Championship did him and Nolan a lot of good.
An edit to this blog, I have found out this morning that Newcastle have in fact sacked Hughton, which at the time of the blog I wasn't aware of, all I can say is, I am disappointed, but I will post that in another blog, Hughton did well on a limited transfer budget, managed to take a keep that was in turmoil after being relegated and turned him back into a side that were playing well.
Sacking him I feel is a mistake, and Sol Campbell too seems to share that opinion as he has apparently made comments against it. It's a shame that there was no further faith in Hughton, I am not sure the full details so I will post after they are revealed.
But right now I am just stunned.
