Manchester City's Krul Intentions
It was a dark dark day for the Magpies when they faced Manchester City, a 3-1 loss, 2 goals of which had come from Newcastle United mistakes. Tim Krul gave away the first goal, with a poor clearance, and then a defensive error saw Newcastle in all sorts of trouble within the first 5 minutes of the game. Andy Carroll again found the net to pull one back.
But the damage was done, Newcastle have Steve Harper close to a full return, Ben Afra close to a return, and won't see new signing Dan Gosling until 2011-2012 season. But the loss has shown that Newcastle are clearly lacking the class needed to be able to be a top force in the Premier League.
Inconsistency has again reared it's ugly head, which saw the errors, the poor play, and just saw them give away another game. Granted Manchester City are a title contender, with their own issues, with Tevez asking for, and then removing his request to be transferred.
Newcastle have also again failed to capitalise on a big win against a big side when they managed to get over the line against Liverpool, their game against Birmingham City was postponed due to the poor weather that has suddenly hit the United Kingdom.
Rumours are floating around about the growing list of teams looking to sign Andy Carroll, the man that has 11 goals this season, a guy with a lot of off field incidents that are threatening to interrupt his career, but he has taken the massive leap from Championship star, to Premier League star quickly, he's yet to reach his full potential, and he already has clubs like Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur sniffing around.
Not to mention a few other clubs, a few of which were sniffing around before the Magpies even stepped foot onto a pitch this season. Selling Andy Carroll would be not only a disappointment to many fans of the side, but also be a major dent in the Newcastle attack.
He and Nolan have been the leading scorers for Newcastle United, and Carroll has also chipped in with a few assists as well. Barton has also gotten the interest of Aston Villa, despite Manager Alan Pardew saying he won't be selling him.
Chris Hughton was supposedly looking to offload Carroll to bring another young striker to the club, I ask, why would you? Why would you offload a guy that's already scoring and doing a good job, for a new face who hasn't played a game in the Premier League?
Carroll is also a Geordie boy, and has committed his future, hopefully to Newcastle, selling him wouldn't be the best option, Mike Ashley needs to find more transfer funds if he wants Newcastle to not only remain in the Premier League, but remain competitive.
The Magpies cannot rely on playing teams who are not at their best like Chelsea who the Magpies escaped with a draw, which could have been a loss. Padew has also said he won't be too active in the January Transfer Window, the hope is that he keeps to his word and doesn't sell Carroll, the vultures are circling, Newcastle need to develop Carroll.
He has the chance to be the next Alan Shearer, if he can keep himself out of trouble, and keep improving, it is a big comparison, but when he was handed the Number 9 shirt, that is what Newcastle Management also thought about Carroll.
The Steven Taylor Drama also looks to continue, with him looking to move, Liverpool were looking, he apparently wanted Tottenham, though it was revealed he was close to a deal with Newcastle before the firing of Hughton, and now Pardew claims they will work a deal to keep him there.
Taylor wanted Ashley to give more transfer funds to Newcastle's manager to help bring more talent to the side, the refusal of this seemed to signal the lack of interest in staying, but that seems to have cooled off somewhat. Where does Taylor's future lie? Well, that mystery should be revealed in January.
We're pretty close to the window re-opening and the wheeling and dealing with start again, but memo to Newcastle United....DON'T SELL CARROLL. The money might be good, but think about it, why sell a player you have been grooming for years, who will be a star at any club?
