Tiote signs on with Toon
Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote signs new six-and-a-half-year contract with the Magpies. The six-and-a-half-year deal follows his arrival from FC Twente last summer, with manager Alan Pardew delighted to be keeping the 24-year-old Ivory Coast player on a long-term basis.
Rumours were floating around thst Chelsea and other clubs were planning a summer raid to entice Tiote away from St. James' Park. Pardew said to Reprtes: "Cheick has been immense for us this season and is exactly the type of player I want in my squad. He is fantastic on the pitch and in the changing room and is vital for everything we want to achieve.
Newcastle face a battle to keep Jose Enrique at the club, Enrique is looking to put off until the Magpies are garunteed their Premier League position for next season. Liverpool are reportedly chasing Enrique as well as Inter Milan.
The Reds already managed to entice star young striker Andy Carroll to Angield during the January Transfer window and hope to add another Magpie during the summer.
Cheik Tioté joins Steven Taylor and Hatem Ben Afra to commit their long term future with Newcastle, Kevin Nolan has also committed himself to the club. While the club also negotiatiates with Joey Barton and hopefully Jose Enrique.
